Increasing Your Search Engine Ranking Part 2Once you have chosen your main keywords, make sure the most important ones appear in your title bar. (Don’t use “Home” in the title bar of your home page! Make it a keyword that is descriptive of the site.) Then go to all your other pages (making sure your internal links all work!). Ensure the title bar on each page contains the important keywords from THAT PAGE. You can include more than one keyword – it doesn’t have to make sense – but don’t make it too long. Increasing Your Search Engine Ranking - Part 2:- The second thing you need to look at is content. Perhaps you are sick of hearing the phrase “Content is king”. It may be a cliché but it is true. Content is what search engines look for. They rank sites with content far above sites with mainly graphics, however impressive the graphics may be. You need at least 100 words on a page and preferably around 250. And make sure your text is in HTML format, not graphic format, or the search engines won’t be able to read it. (To find out if it is in HTML format, try to highlight a word on the page – if you can’t, that means it is in graphic format. So change it, or ask your web designer to change it.) Now that you have decided what are the important keywords you want to optimize for, make sure your text contains those keywords. Aim for a keyword density of between 5% and 9% - i.e., that should be the percentage of the text that consists of the keywords. Don’t make the percentage higher than that or you could be accused of “keyword stuffing”, that is, over-using keywords to get noticed. Include them so that they form a natural part of the text. One important thing to remember is that you must keep updating your content. However good and search-engine friendly the content is, the search engines will lose interest if it stays untouched for month after month. This may seem a tremendous effort, but it is something you must do. The third thing to consider is “meta tags”. This term sounds very technical and very few people bother to explain it to you! Meta tags form part of the HTML coding of your web site, but they do not affect the way the page actually looks – they just provide information to the search engines. The most important ones are keyword meta tags and description meta tags. For example, the keyword meta tags tell the search engines which keywords represent the content on the page.
